Amazon, I never regret your recommendation for me to take this book for my endgame. I am not a specialist but I assure you that this book SHOULD BE the best book on the shelf for serious learners of chess who want to become masters with ease. Please continue to offer these respectable guidance on book purchases as now I await to see Mr Silman himswelf , a gentleman with the utmost humor. Excellent purchase.
I am a club player.I have studied several books on chess.I am now working my way through Silman's Complete Endgame Course. It's terrific.Jeremy Silman must be one of the best (or the best) chess educators around. He is himself a professional, but he knows how the amateurs think. There are a lot of useful chess books on the opening and middle games. But Silman's book on the endgame is more or less the only one you need as you continue to enjoy this royal game of chess.Thorbjørn Skaug
A good writer has to understand my ignorance before I can understand his wisdom. The information is presented in a clear and concise manner. Some of these books are like one GM talking to another. Amazon service is a plus, too. William Blake, Bel Air, MD
Wonderful book. Silman creates a masterpiece by separating the studies by rating, making them easier to learn. The book is fun, has lots of explanations, easy to learn, not boring, and has a lot of knowledge. If somebody was to look for a endgame book, this book would be the best for anybody.
At 500 pages, this book is by far the thickest chess book I have ever own. Hat off to the author. The thought framework laid out by the author is both comprehensive and easy to follow at the same time.
Like many people at this skill level, I have not paid much attention to endgame previously. Not only are they assigned appropriately, the later chapters systematically build on the previous ones. Yet, once I turn the page, I wish it could be even thicker because the book is so well written and immensely helpful.I have been playing chess for just over a year and have a strength of roughly 1200.
Most amazingly, the lessons are organized from introductory to master-level in eight parts. The idea of calculating king+pawn combination to 20 moves ahead just seemed an impossible task for mere mortals. This book really opens my eyes, however, showing how to approach the endgame in a systematic way.
Instead of a haphazard collection of ideas, the whole book feels like one unified solution.
